Radio 3 in Concert

The BBC National Orchestra of Wales and conductor Stephanie Childress perform Williams, Maconchy, Semple, and Wolfe as part of their 'Grace' series of concerts. The series explores the music of Grace Williams, here in her evocative Ballads, and female composers in music. In this concert the Orchestra showcase works by living composers Anna Semple and Julia Wolfe: Semple's The Gates plays with the ideas of recall and memory, Wolfe's Pretty is a raucous celebration of the connotations of what being 'pretty' means. Also on the bill is Williams' friend and colleague, Elizabeth Maconchy, and her Seranata Concertante with Geneva Lewis as soloist. Presented by Verity Sharp, live from Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff.
