Radio 3 in ConcertStephen Broad presents a concert from Edinburgh's Usher Hall, with violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky directing the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra in music by Bacewicz, Strauss, Kilar and Bizet. As part of this year's Edinburgh International Festival celebration of Polish culture, the orchestra showcases the Concerto for String Orchestra by first lady of Polish music Gra?yna Bacewicz, Richard Strauss's intense and brooding Metamorphosen and film composer Wojciech Kilar's mountainscape inspired Orawa.. They are joined by a quintet of Scottish percussionists for an idiosyncratically technicolour adaptation by Rodion Shchedrin of Bizet's music from Carmen. Bacewicz: Concerto for String Orchestra.
