Adaptation of the classic Washington Irving ghost story about a Yankee wanderer named Ichabod Crane who takes residence in the village of Sleepy Hollow as the school headmaster. When Crane becomes attracted to local Katrina Van Tassel, her brutish fiancé Brom Bones intends to scare Crane away by using the famous tale of the Headless Horseman, a ghost who supposedly haunts the village. Brom plans to pose as the ghost but the real Headless Horseman has a plan of his own in this spooky tale.
