Angelina Jolie is perfectly cast as the Sleeping Beauty villain in this dazzling origins adventure.
As a child living in the magical Moors, fairy Maleficent formed a close bond with a boy named Stefan from the neighbouring human kingdom. But as the pair grew up, they grew apart and when the King offers his crown to the first person to kill Maleficent, Stefan (Sharlto Copley) commits a huge act of betrayal.
Though he can’t bring himself to kill her, Stefan shears Maleficent’s wings to take back to the King as a trophy and thus succeeds the throne. In retaliation, a devastated and enraged Maleficent places a curse on Stefan’s infant daughter, but as she watches Aurora (Elle Fanning) grow up, she wonders if she has made a terrible mistake.
With this dazzling family fantasy, Disney brings to life the story of one of their most iconic villains. Not only does Jolie look the part, she brings a depth and humanity to the role that adds real poignancy to the tale.
