Portrait Artist of the Year: London

Joan Bakewell and Frank Skinner present a competition to find the UK's most talented portrait artist, with a £10,000 commission to paint Booker-winning author Hilary Mantel and a hanging space in the British Library's permanent collection as the prize. They head to London's Trafalgar Square for the first of four national heats, where 21 artists have been invited to paint celebrity sitters including Alison Steadman, Robert Lindsay and Juliet Stevenson
