Jay Hunt, the Chief Creative Officer at Channel 4 writes interestingly today about the use of social media with TV. For her, the priority is to look at creative ways to strive to deliver better viewing experiences by really harnessing and connecting the different media platforms so popular to modern TV audiences.

In her article, in association with the imminent and excellent Sheffield Documentary Film Festival, Ms Hunt also goes on to mention how important it is for broadcasters and programme makers to track the audiences for their shows, and also how useful it can be to garner instant feedback as their programmes, they hope, become #trendingtopics on Twitter.

Here at digiguide we always love the chance to be discussing all things-telly related and find it really rather wonderful that we can Tweet along with funny TV critics like @gracedent and @boydhilton on Twitter as we watch. In fact, we designed our digiguide iPhone app to make it as simple as possible for our users to do just that: Tweet Along As You Watch!

We are constantly checking to see which programmes are trending and have been popular on Twitter so that we can correctly apply and automate the hashtag function on the iPhone app, and get viewers directly involved in the discussions and banter on Twitter.

We firmly believe, as Ms Hunt does, that an integrated experience via social media, finding and connecting with like minds on Twitter and Facebook , while watching TV is very much now a crucial part of the experience, and enriches our enjoyment of our favourite programmes even more.

Let us know what you think on Twitter and Facebook too!
