Business partners Ronny (Vince Vaughn) and Nick (Kevin James) are best friends, with Nick's lovely wife Geneva (Winona Ryder) and Ronny's beautiful girlfriend Beth (Jennifer Connelly) making up a particularly awesome foursome. They seem to have the perfect set-up, but their happy lives are blown to bits when Ronny sees Geneva in a romantic clinch with a young hunk named Zip (Channing Tatum). Burdened with the knowledge of her infidelity, Ronny must decide whether to tell his best bud everything, or hope that Geneva comes clean.
A likeable quartet make this comedy drama an enjoyable watch. Less of a gag-fest than Vaughn and James's involvement might suggest, The Dilemma is boosted by the dramatic heft of the likes of Connelly and Ryder.
Writer Allan Loeb kicked off his career with po-faced Halle Berry drama Things We Lost in the Fire, but seems to have cheered up in recent times also penning romcoms The Switch and Just Go With It. His dramatic sensibilities, however, are still evident here, as are Ron Howard's, who combines his flair for cerebral dramas such as A Beautiful Mind and comedies including Parenthood to create a funny but thoughtful look at relationships.
