quirky romantic comedy from the antipodean stable, this many-flavoured debut from actor/director John Polson is a light but complex meditation on life-fulfilment and fate. Perry is a Brit who seems to have it all - a beautiful wife, a comfortable home and a secure job with a paint factory, where he creates the colours. All this is not enough, however, so he takes himself off to the other side of the world. At the same time, Grace, is on the run from an abusive relationship, and her boyfriend is in hot pursuit. Perry and Grace meet, causing sparks to fly, but Grace's ex could wreck the whole thing. Filmed with a Coen-like eye for eccentric detail, Siam Sunset is more than a backpacker love story for the Bridget Jones set, mixing warm humour with the odd jarring surprise and plenty of Oz ribaldry.
