Released in 1996, David Cronenberg's controversial film of J.G. Ballard's book stars James Spader (pictured) and Holly Hunter (pictured) as car-crash victims who meet again in hospital and find they share a sexual obsession with cars and danger.
As they delve deeper into the world of this fetish, they meet Elias Koteas, who specialises in re-creating famous fatal crashes, and his partner Rosanna Arquette, injured in a crash, who now walks with a brace. Cronenberg follows them as their relationships and obsessions become more intertwined and increasingly dangerous.
