Fact-based story of a doctor's extraordinary work in the 1960s with a group of catatonic patients he finds languishing in a Bronx hospital. Speculating that their rigidity may be akin to an extreme form of Parkinsonism, the doctor seeks permission from his sceptical superiors to give the patients L-dopa, a drug that was used to treat Parkinson's disease. The treatment leads to stunning results in the case of one man who has been catatonic since childhood. Based on the book by Dr Oliver Sacks.
