Unreported World: 40 Years to Find My Family

Reporter Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Director Daniel Bogado are in Cambodia, to meet families torn apart by genocide, now being reunited by reality TV. A local version of TV show Long Lost Family finds families who were torn apart by the Khmer Rouge 40 years ago. Healing the wounds from one of Cambodia's most painful legacies has become a mission for the TV production team, and Unreported World witnesses their most emotionally charged edition yet. Four decades ago Cambodia suffered one of the worst atrocities of the twentieth century. 1.7 million people were killed during the Khmer Rouge's four-year reign of terror. As well as the mass murders, hundreds of thousands of family member were forcibly separated from each other by Pol Pot's government, which did not believe in the institution of the family, and instead demanded loyalty to the state. Thousands of them remain separated, not knowing where their siblings, parents or children are, or even if they are still alive
