Great Lives: Jeanne Baret, First Woman to Sail Round the Globe

Actress Nina Sosanya pays tribute to Jeanne Baret, the first woman to sail around the world as part of Louis Antoine de Bougainville's circumnavigation in 1763. Nina first learned about the sailor after seeing her portrait in the Greenwich museum, learning that she dressed as a man because women were not allowed on board. Glynis Ridley, the author of The Discovery of Jeanne Baret, helps piece together the adventurer's life, from her birth in rural France to her passage round the globe, abandoned on Mauritius and getting back home seven years after everyone else.
