Britain's Ancient Tracks with Tony Robinson
Britain is criss-crossed by an amazing network of ancient trackways. These remarkable routes are our oldest roads and have been travelled for more than 5000 years. Walked by pilgrims and traders, hunters and invaders, Celts and Romans, Saxons and Vikings, each track is bound up in myth, mystery and legend. Tony Robinson explores the truth behind the megaliths, burial sites, ley lines and hidden caves along these ancient pathways and connects the clues they have left hidden in the British landscape. In this first episode, Tony explores the stories, songs and sacred places along The Icknield Way, one of Britain's oldest roads. What remains today is a braid of prehistoric pathways. Tony explores this elusive path from the coast in Norfolk, through Cambridgeshire and finishes his journey at Whipsnade in the rolling hills of Bedfordshire.
