Britain's Ancient Tracks with Tony Robinson
Britain is criss-crossed by an amazing network of ancient trackways. These remarkable routes are our oldest roads and have been travelled for more than 5000 years. Walked by pilgrims and traders, hunters and invaders, Celts and Romans, Saxons and Vikings, each track is bound up in myth, mystery and legend. Tony Robinson explores the truth behind the megaliths, burial sites, ley lines and hidden caves along these ancient pathways and connects the clues that they've left hidden in the British landscape. In this second episode, Tony follows the Ridgeway from the Downs in Wiltshire, across the high chalk ridge in Oxfordshire, and into Berkshire, where he rejoins the 21st century on the banks of the Thames. Tony visits a world-famous stone circle at the heart of a prehistoric landscape, follows in the tracks of Celtic chariots, explores a burial chamber that's older than the pyramids, and uncovers the secrets of a great white horse.
