Director of the British Museum Neil MacGregor retells the history of human development from the first stone axe to the credit card, using 100 selected objects from the Museum. Neil examines the great Gupta Empire, which flourished in India from around 320 to 550 AD. The Gupta period is regarded by many Indians as a golden age, a time when Indian cultural life and religion came together to create temples and texts that are central to Hinduism today. The growing sophistication of the time is explained through gold coins of the Gupta period. The historian Romila Thapar and the Hindu cleric Shaunaka Rishi Das help explore the legacy of the Guptas
