After 40 years of marriage, Alfie Shebridge (Anthony Hopkins) leaves his wife Helena (Gemma Jones) in search of greener pastures. Devastated, Helena starts leaning on charlatan fortune teller Cristal (Pauline Collins) for spiritual guidance, and is told she will soon meet a tall dark stranger.
