The Return of the Musketeers (1989)

Directed by
Richard Lester

After the romps of The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers in 1973 and 1974, Richard Lester once again gathered together Michael York, Oliver Reed, Frank Finlay and Richard Chamberlain to reprise their roles as D'Artagnan, Athos, Porthos and Aramis from the original movies. The ageing adventurers set out on another bout of swashbuckling deeds, this time focusing on rescuing Queen Anne from plots hatched by both her lover Cardinal Mazarin and Milady de Winter's daughter Justine. The action is fast and furious but the fun of the film is tinged with sadness: Roy Kinnear, who plays the comic servant Planchet, was fatally injured during an action scene. Edited for content.
