The Devil and Daniel Johnston (2005)

Daniel Johnston is an acclaimed singer/songwriter/artist who also happens to suffer from manic depression. Jeff Feuerzeig's Sundance-winning documentary is a unique portrait of his illness, creativity and love. As a reclusive teenager growing up in West Virginia, Johnston began showing signs of unusual artistic ability at an early age, religiously recording his thoughts and stories onto cassette tapes, directing Super- 8 films starring himself in multiple roles and creating expressive comic book-style drawings and animation.
