Mere Dad Ki Maruti (2013)

Ashima Chibber began her career directing television series before making her first feature film, this fast-paced comedy whose title translates as My Dad's Maruti. In Chandigarh, Punjab, the Khullar family are busy preparing for their daughter's wedding. Keen to give his daughter and future son-in-law a special wedding gift, Tej Khullar buys them a red Maruti Ertiga. The car is proudly parked in the driveway when Tej's college-going son Sameer and his friend Gattu decide to sneak it out for the evening, so that Sameer can drive the sexy Jazzleen to a club. And, from that moment on, Sameer and Gattu lurch from one disastrous decision to another... Chibber's debut hit home with a young middle-class Indian audience whose ideas of life differ vastly from their parents' traditional views. And the scenes of tension and humour between father and son suggest that family harmony in India is largely a thing of the past!
