Black Cat, White Cat (1998)

Directed by
Emir Kusturica

Also known as "Crna macka, beli macor" this is a Serbian-Croatian farcical romantic comedy.

This farcical comedy follows Matko Destanov (Bajram Severdzan), a small time gypsy hustler. He lives beside the Danube with his 17-year-old son Zare (Florijan Ajdini).

After he makes a mistake with a business deal it leaves him owing money to the much more successful gangster Dadan Karambolo (Srdjan Todorovic).

Dadan has a sister, Afrodita (Salija Ibraimova), that he desperately wants married off so the two strike a deal which entails Zare to marry Afrodita.

However, neither of the two concerned want an arranged marriage for their own reasons; Zare is in love with Ida (Branka Katic) whereas Afrodita is purely waiting for the man of her dreams. This unwillingness to comply leads to certain chaos.
