Food writer Josh Ozersky takes a trip around the United States, looking at how alcoholic beverages are created and how culture, science and history have influenced the nation's favourite drinks. He visits a moonshining operation in the Virginia hills and a distillery in Washington, DC, where National Museum of Natural History botanist Barrett Brooks gives him a lesson in the art and history of botanicals - once used to make medicine - which now help flavour gin.
