Trusadh

In January 2005, in the Western Isles, three generations of the same family lost their lives in one brutal stroke as they tried to flee the storm that was battering the islands. Murdina and Archie MacPherson and their two children all perished, as did Murdina's father, Calum Campbell. Calum, who was 67, was well known as a piper and piping instructor and had also composed some tunes. However, the sheer number of them did not become clear until his son Niall embarked on the difficult task of sorting through his father's effects. The pieces of paper with tunes and notes of the some of the stories that had inspired them grew, and Niall realised that this was something that was very special. As 2015 approached, the family wanted to find a way of creating a positive memory for the family and the community, and so the idea to create a book of Calum's tunes was first mooted. MacTV followed the family's journey as they make the book a reality, and this is their story.
