Cleopatra's Palace: In Search of a Legend

The dramatic story of her love affairs with Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony, and of her death by suicide is legendary. Yet despite being amongst the most powerful and beautiful women in history she remains an enigma.

Precious little archaeological evidence of her existence - her palaces, temples, and her immense wealth, have ever been found. Until now that is.

A key reason why traces of Cleopatra are so faint is that the famous Egyptian city of Alexandria in which she spent much of her time was later ravaged by earthquakes and tidal waves. Many of the ancient buildings toppled into the bay, creating a massive underwater jigsaw puzzle.

This film follows underwater archaeologist Franck Goddio as he and his team of divers explore this huge site using the latest technology to map out the ancient city.

Buried beneath the bay he discovers spectacular ships, statues, palaces and temples never seen before.

Most important of all he discovers what he believes to be the domain of the great Queen Cleopatra herself and vital clues that tell us more about how she lived and died.
