After years in the wilderness, destiny has returned MI-7's 'greatest', luckiest and most haphazard spy Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson) to London. Diving straight back into action, he takes on a mission to save the Chinese premier, the target of a ring of assassins. Unravelling a wider plot that involves the KGB, CIA and even his colleagues in MI-7, he will need all his unique skills to save the world... again.
Atkinson once again pairs up with writer Hamish McColl to serve up typically humorous quips that show an appreciation for British comedies from times gone by.
The inclusion of James Bond alumnus Rosamund Pike is a welcome addition, while further recognisable faces including Dominic West and Gillian Anderson all play the straight guys well alongside Atkinson's trademark slapstick.
Johnny English Reborn eclipses its 2003 predecessor thanks to its smarter lampoonery, and there are plenty of laugh-inducing moments along the way. Buffeted by the usual dodgy gadgetry and bumbling heroism from Atkinson, this mercurial mission ekes out as much funny from a flimsy original as possible to create a charismatic follow-up.
