Ally McBeal

Multi award-winning writer/producer David E. Kelley known for writing The Practice, Chicago Hope, and Picket Fences is the fabulous creator of yet another wonderful American comedy, drama: Ally McBeal. He has created the most fabulous characters in Ally McBeal and thought of the most bizarre (yet plausible with the characters) storylines.

The main character Ally McBeal (Calista Flockhart) is a rather confused lawyer who likes her job, but is constantly depressed about the lack of male company in her life. The possibility of a 'maybe' is a dream to Ally who tries her best to find the right man, they all turn out to have mental problems, horrid laughs, be bisexual or have some other characteristic which Ally can't stand though! The most original aspect about her character is the world of fantasies that she often escapes to; the special effects in the programme are really good at emphasising Ally's thoughts.

The only one that Ally truly loved was Billy Thomas (Gil Bellows), there friendship continues, but with Ally finding it hard just to be friends and often fantasises about the possibility of them being more than friend's again! Billy however has many romantic liaison's first with wife Georgia Thomas (Courtney Thorne-Smith), and then with his secretary.

Georgia Thomas has now become more of an exciting character asserting herself as a confident businesswoman, and being gorgeous, intelligent and now independent! Working along side Georgia is Renee Radick (Lisa Nicole Carson) the sexy lawyer who is not afraid to use her sexuality, and with both women teamed with Judge Jennifer "Whipper" Cone (Dyan Cannon) the three together give out lots of charisma and power!

The funniest character has to be John 'the biscuit' Cage (Peter MacNicol), one of the two partners of the firm. He is always taking a 'moment', but being the best lawyer around his moments and weird little habits seem to work! His relationship with Barry White has to be the best thing about his character. His relationship with Nell is also a little different to conventional couples.

Nelle's (Portia de Rossi) character is a very assertive, sexy, independent one, her attraction to John is very mysterious and her opinions are some times very controversial, but her friendship with Ling is the funniest, bringing in Ling's character is the best thing her character's ever done!

Ling (Lucy Liu) is a very diverse character who has lots of contrasting elements, including a special talent for arousing someone's finger. She also has many other assets like owning her own escort agency, being an excellent dancer and being a professional lawyer. Aside from that the character who started off being very hard faced is starting to show her more affectionate side, not that she'd let anyone else know, she secretly helps characters like Elaine Vassal (Jane Krakowski) Ally's secretary.

Elaine is a really nice character who is great at dancing, good at listening to people's problems, but bad at gossiping. Her character has really started to open up more and be involved in the main storylines, the funniest being when we discover her invention of the face bra, one all of us women may invest in the future (you never know)!

The other partner of the firm is Richard Fish (Greg Germann) his character is truly one of a kind! With his fishisms he creates chaos in the courtroom, particularly annoying Judge Seymour Walsh (Albert Hall). His talent to touch Ling's knee pit is one of his few assets, and his fetish of waddles has to be the funniest, particularly the way he tries to touch older women's necks! His character never seems to help others much although John always seems to ask his advice, he never really uses it though, but who can blame him?

All of the characters make the drama what it is; with fabulous acting it's no wonder Ally McBeal is a Golden Globe Award-winning romantic comedy. The show is very popular, being enjoyable to watch and relax to! The music performed by Vonda Shepard really reflects the plot and makes the storylines even more powerful!
