What to watch on Thursday, August 16th, 2012
For the first time on television the BBC is honouring the outstanding and tireless work of Britain's Emergency Services. Hosted by Kirsty Young and Lenny Henry at BBC Television Centre, the BBC 999 Awards will see a host of celebrity names pay tribute to the heroic acts that these officers and volunteers perform on a daily basis.
Since the 999 Emergency Number came in to action 75 years ago, the Emergency Services have saved millions of lives and helped countless others. Over the course of the evening awards will be presented to individuals and teams whose actions have gone beyond the call of duty in exceptional circumstances.
In addition to the Emergency and Rescue services there will be a number of Special Recognition Awards, Honourable Mentions and a The One Show Award.
