Comic Relief Preview

Pose for the camera, guys!

Next Friday one of the biggest telethons of the year is back - Comic Relief! Every year the organisers promise that the telethon will be bigger and better but this year it looks like they might just be right, with two classic comedy characters coming out of the cupboard for one night only and lots more!

Did you hear the one about the vicar who wanted to be a bishop?

Everyone’s favourite vicar is back but this time she has her sights set a bit higher. One of the first lady vicars has decided to keep up the trend and apply to be one of the first lady bishops. But apparently there are some unexpected and well-known faces vying for the same position… and we won’t know who those will be until the night!

This short sketch will be a treat for long-term fans of the series, especially after the passing of Roger Lloyd Pack who played everyone’s favourite grossly under-hygienic farmer Owen Newitt. We know that Jim Trott and Hugo Horton will return with the Vicar but it remains to be seen whether any other characters also return. I’m personally hoping for at least a short cameo by Alice (which is unlikely since the actress seems to have given up acting)

Mr. Bean also returns for one night only

After an eight-year absence from Comic Relief and I believe, a three year absence from TV (his last appearance was at the 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony), beloved character Mr. Bean is back in a one-off sketch also starring comic actors Ben Miller and Rebecca Front. According to the Telegraph, the television series ended twenty years ago! Even with Rowan Atkinson doing other projects - the Johnny English films and the upcoming Maigret dramas - it feels like his classic character has never been away, let alone appeared twice in twenty years.

National Treasure 2015

(Scariest photo ever?)

It’s the competition celebrities have been waiting for. No Strictly’s not back on our screens yet (not unless you count the People’s Strictly)! Instead some of the biggest names in showbiz are vying for the title of National Treasure 2015. Likely candidates include future political hotshot (and comic. In fact, just comic) Russell Brand, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, genius Stephen Fry and… The Chuckle Brothers! Surely they’re the obvious winners!

The obvious choice to replace Matt Lucas in Little Britain…

...is Professor Stephen Hawking of course! Wait, why are you looking at me strangely? This makes perfect sense!

David Walliam’s carer character Lou seems to have moved on to bigger and better things as we now find him caring for Professor Hawking (who I assume is playing himself). I never watched Little Britain as I’m not the biggest fan of Matt Lucas (sorry!) but I’ll be tuning in because Professor Hawking seems to do sassy very well and should play off against David Walliams brilliantly. Catherine Tate also stars in this short sketch which was filmed at Cambridge University.

Dermot O’Leary takes dance to the extreme

The brave X Factor host is planning to do a dance marathon for 24 hours! Say what you will about him but you can’t fault his commitment to the cause! I’ll be amazed if he doesn’t collapse at the London Palladium immediately afterwards. He begins his dance marathon on the One Show on Thursday 12th March.

These are the highlights from the telethon which begins from 7.00pm next Friday 13th March. Other highlights include the winner of the People’s Strictly being named, James Bond in a top secret sketch mission, and highlights from Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights Live. It looks to be an enjoyable evening!
